NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) - New Hanover County Elections director Marvin McFadyen has responded to a petition filed by the local board of elections to remove him as director.
In his 99 page response to the State Board's Deputy Director, McFadyen denies most of the claims made by New Hanover County Election Board Chair John Ferrante.
McFadyen says that since Ferrante became board chair, he consistently has interfered with the operations of the elections office. He also refers to him as "very forceful, stubborn and does not want to hear any disagreement."
McFadyen also asserts that board member Marlene Mitchell votes with Chairman Ferrante because it is in her best interest financially, explaining in his statement that Ferrante is also the Chairman of the Board of a Charter School run by Baker Mitchell, Marlene Mitchell's husband.
McFadyen says he regrets what is occurring with the board of elections and takes the conflicts personally. He says he has had a good working relationship with previous boards and wants to continue to serve the citizens of New Hanover County.
The State Board of Elections will consider to grant or deny the petition sent by the County board.
