My Turn: Excitement sparks with UNCW men's basketball

I know it's early and a lot can happen, but for the first time in the last several years, there's a sense of excitement in the air on the campus of UNCW and at Trask Coliseum.

The Seahawks men's basketball team is playing with enthusiasm under first-year head coach Kevin Keatts…and they are winning.

Last weekend's game was another great example with a hard fought win over Towson at home. The thing that impressed me the most about the victory is what happened immediately after the game. Coach Keatts grabbed the microphone and thanked the fans for providing the team with the best home court advantage in the conference. You don't see something like that very often.

I've heard about the glory days of UNCW basketball. And like I said, it's early in the process. But so far, I like what I'm seeing from Coach Keatts and the Seahawks' fan base. A resurgence for UNCW Basketball might just be what this town needs.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at

First I want to say that I liked your commentary "your turn" about UNCW's men's basketball, It was great to see something that was possitve. So with that being said I want to say thank you for your comments about Coach Keatts, I've worked for UNCW for the past 10 years and it was great to see good and positive air time about UNCW again. I was at the last 2 home games and they were great and our Seahawks are gettting back to the top again. I believe that it is our time again to be soar high. I said to my friend that was had season tickets for the last 12 year when I saw Coach Keatts give that speech that he impressed me every much, I think we now have a coach that wants to be here for coaching and not just for the money ie Buzz, sorry for bringing up Buzz. Again I want to thank you for giving a good spotlight on UNCW and seeing something in the news about UNCW that was good news. Mr. McNair UNCW and Cape Fear Community College over the last year has had some bad air time about "Upper Management" It would be great if WECT would do a segment about the good sides of UNCW and CFCC – Faculty and Staff. When it really comes down to Faculty and Staff, "We are UNCW and CFCC".
