UNC Wilmington trustees approved two tentative job offers for high-level positions during a special called meeting Monday, but they did not identify the jobs or prospective hires.
The board's executive committee unanimously approved the decision following a closed session that all but one of the members joined via conference call.
The positions to be filled are not vice chancellors but they report directly to the chancellor, according to Mark Lanier, the trustees' assistant secretary.
Lanier said one of the hires will require approval from UNC General Administration. He explained details about the offers would be public record when they are formalized in early January.
William Sederberg is serving as UNCW's interim chancellor as a committee searches for a permanent leader, expected to be appointed by July 2015.
Michael Shivar, chair of UNCW's trustees, said his board encouraged Sederberg to move the university forward during his tenure.
“Hopefully our new chancellor will see that we've made good decisions in this year of interim chancellor and will not be coming in with a backlog of too many things that have to be taken care of right away,” Shivar said after Monday's meeting.
Sederberg told the executive committee that Denise Battles, UNCW's provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, is still in the running for the State University of New York Geneseo president's post.
