WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

The headhunter helping UNCW find a new leader says some of the potential candidates have asked questions about the last chancellor's controversial exit.

Jerry Baker of Baker and Associates told the search committee Friday that many of the prospects mentioned media coverage of former Chancellor Gary Miller's decision to leave after less than three years on the job.

Potential candidates are also interested in the future of research at the university, Baker said, explaining he has spoken with about 20 people interested in the chancellor position, including several corporate CEOs.

The prospect of living in Wilmington is appealing to many candidates, Baker explained.

A job posting appeared this week in the Chronicle of Higher Education, a leading industry publication.

The university hopes to name the new chancellor by July.
