Victims identified in deadly Carolina Beach fires

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) -

Carolina Beach Police have identified the victims from Saturday's deadly fires. According to officials, Mary Angeline Cochran, 72, and Darlene Ann Maslar, 43, both died in the fire at 409 Carolina Beach Ave. South.

Early Saturday morning, three fires started within hours of each other. The first fire burned a condo containing 12 family dwellings to the ground.

Several family units were significantly damaged in a second condo fire. The third fire was a vehicle fire, no structures were burned as a result of that blaze.

In addition to the fatalities, officials said they transported several people with minor injuries to the hospital. One firefighter also received minor injuries.

Officials have charged 22-year-old Marshall Doran with two counts of first-degree murder in connection to the deaths of Cochran and Maslar. Doran was initially arrested on first-degree burglary charges and named him a "person of interest" in the incident.
