Wilmington man arrested after police find loaded gun during traffic stop

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Wilmington Police arrested a man after finding a loaded pistol in his vehicle during a traffic stop near 13th and Queen Streets Saturday night.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers noticed a car driving in the Vista Village area with a cover over the license plate.

After police activated their lights, the car continued driving another block, hitting the curb several times in the process.

Once the vehicle stopped, officers spoke to the driver, 49-year-old Dandrea Harper of Wilmington, and noted that there were outstanding warrants for his arrest. Police also noted a strong smell of alcohol from Harper.

Officers search Harper's vehicle and found a loaded pistol. They arrested Harper and charged him with possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon, driving while impaired and covering registration plate.
