WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Held by the Alzheimer's Association of Eastern North Carolina, the Wilmington Walk to End Alzheimer's saw more than 500 participants Saturday.

Similar walks across the nation comprise the largest event to raise awareness and money for Alzheimer's care, support and research. Peggy Rosoff said her mother is one of five million Americans affected by Alzheimer's.

"It's important to raise money to figure out either why Alzheimer's occurs, or to figure out how to cure it, neither of which have been resolved yet, although there is some good news recently," Rosoff explained.

Upwards of $45,000 has been raised so far.
