WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Seven players collected at least four kills as UNCW clinched a spot in the Colonial Athletic Association volleyball tournament with a sweep of visiting William & Mary on Sunday at Hanover Hall.
The Seahawks won their third straight match to raise their record to 18-8 overall and 8-4 in the league. The Tribe dropped its fourth consecutive outing to dip to 6-21 and 2-10 in the CAA.
Heading up the UNCW offense were Meredith Peacock, Sarah Fitzgerald and Nicole Lott, each with seven kills. For Fitzgerald, it was a season-high kill total as she made her first start of the season and second appearance after returning from a knee injury.
UNCW again control things at the net with a 10-5 blocking advantage. Peacock, Sarah Kelly and Kristen Powell recorded four blocks apiece.
Dessi Koleva held match-high honors for the Tribe with 11 kills, but no other hitters finished with more than four kills. Sara Zumbach also held match-high honors with 21 digs for W&M.
The Seahawks will be making their second straight appearance in the conference tournament after not qualifying since 2000.
