After dropping both regular season games to Louisburg College, the Cape Fear Community College women's soccer team advanced to the Region X championship with a 2-0 shutout on Saturday.
The Sea Devils face Spartanburg Methodist on Sunday for the a chance to get in the national tournament.
Cape Fear 101 Port City Prep 46
Cape Fear Community College cruised to a 101-46 win over Port City Prep to wrap up a double-header in downtown Wilmington on Saturday.
Anthony Vanhook led the preseason ninth-ranked Sea Devils with 22 points, while James Tillman and Demetres Abrams added 14 points apiece. Nate Sims and Matt Lindsey also contributed with a combined 25 points to close out the individual scoring leaders.
“Just a great way to start the season and real proud of the performance today,” said CFCC Coach Ryan Mantlo. “Right now it's all about getting better each day and it's time to get back to work Monday to prepare for the Cape Fear Classic next weekend.”
Cape Fear (1-0) welcomes Brunswick Community College, CCBC Catonsville and CCBC Dundalk to the Schwartz Center for the Cape Fear Classic Nov. 8-9.
Cape Fear 79 Meredith College 58
Cape Fear finished its three-game exhibition schedule with a 79-58 win over Meredith College at the Schwartz Center on Saturday in the Sea Devils final gear up before the regular season.
Three different players finished in double digits as Kristina Rumplasch picked up a game-high 32 points, while Eboni Gilliam poured 20 along with 10 points from Ashley Hicks.
The Sea Devils have to a week to train heading into the Louisburg College Tournament Nov. 14-15.
