WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -
Nearly 100 students at UNCW laced up their shoes to spread the word about the upcoming general election.
UNCW's Election Campaign Communication held its first Run to the Polls event on Thursday, Oct. 30. This event brought members of the UNCW area community together as they ran, walked, or biked from campus to the board of elections to take part in early voting.
UNCW's Communication's spokesperson, Kaitlin Russell, along with her fellow classmates, have been working in conjunction with the City of Wilmington to inform their peers on the City's 2014 Transportation Bond, as well as other ballot items.
"A lot of students are not completely sure about what is being voted on," Russell stated. "It's really been nice to see students learning and realizing what they could be voting on is going to be making a difference for them and future students in the coming years."
The event was actually organized by a group of students -- spearheaded by Christine Archibald.
"For me it's not about the grade. It's about getting real world experience," said Archibald. "I'm learning how and what it's like to work on a campaign and this class is providing me the opportunity to do that. We want everyone to know the issues before they vote."
Early voting ends on November 1st. Election day is November 4th.
