UNC-Wilmington Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo is talking about the suicide of a former student accused of killing a UNCW freshman.

Curtis Dixon died Thursday at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. Two days earlier, Dixon broke free from his guards at the Polk Youth Detention Center in Butner and hurled himself down a three story stairwell.

On Friday, Chancellor DePaulo addressed the Board of Trustees, saying she hopes this brings closure to a difficult time for the university.

"The last eight months have been a challenge because of the two horrific murders that wounded the campus," the Chancellor said in a statement. "Curtis Dixon's death is I think and hope the final chapter in what has been the most tragic time. I hope above all else it brings closure to Jessie's parents."

Dixon was accused of killing UNCW student Jessica Faulkner. Her body was found in his dorm room back in May.
