WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -
UNCW is opening its season with a crazy comedy.
Students are performing The Doctor in Spite of Himself. Moliere wrote the show in the 1600's, but this is a more modern adaptation of the tale.
It follows a woodcutter who is tricked into having to pretend he's a doctor. He then has to somehow come up with a way to cure a mute woman.
The show is a farce, which means it uses a lot of ludicrous situations and physical comedy.
"It's one hour full of pranks and gigs and all these hijinks and everything," actor Bruno Rose said. "This is basically an adult version of Dr. Seuss almost, so it's been very awesome to work with all these quirky characters and everyone is just so out of the box."
"It's just such a lively show and there's just so much comedy packed into one hour," said actress Arianna Tysinger. "It's fantastic."
