WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -
The University of North Carolina Wilmington hopes to collect 250 pints of blood next week as part of the annual CAA Blood Challenge.
Each year, CAA universities and college members participate in a blood drive battle as a fun way to emphasize the critical importance of donating blood. The school the collects the most donations is crowned the winner.

"We are committed to being excellent community partners and I can't think of a better way than assisting the American Red Cross and the CAA with the CAA Blood Drive," said Jimmy Bass, director of athletics for UNCW. "It has been an honor and privilege for UNCW Athletics to be involved with this initiative since its inception in 2002. By giving the gift of life to help someone in need, we are making a difference in improving the quality of life around us."
All presenting blood donors receive a commemorative T-shirt, pizza and a coupon by email for a free haircut at Sport Clips.
