Porters Neck Tennis Open to raise funds for scholarships

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Some of the top college and professional players in the country will gather at Porters Neck Country Club this weekend for the $10,000 Porters Neck Tennis Open to raise money for UNCW men's tennis scholarships.

The fifth annual event runs Friday through Sunday, Sept. 26-28, and features a 32-player singles draw and 16-team doubles bracket. It is free and open to the public.

Players who have participated in recent years include Brian Baker, Brendon Evans, Terence Celestine, Robert Gates, Greg Ouelltte, Eliot Potvin, Antoine Benneteau and Ryan Young. Players from UNCW, Wake Forrest, N.C. State, Duke and Virginia regularly play in the event.

According to Yona Bar-Zeev, chairman of the event, approximately $15,000 has been raised for UNCW men's tennis scholarships heading into this year's tournament.
