BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) - The teenage driver involved in a fatal accident in Supply over the weekend will face multiple charges, according to State Highway officials.
Joshua Coleman, 17, will be charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, driving left of center, and violations of a graduated license, which include driving after 9 p.m. without a supervising driver and exceeding passenger limit.
Tyrus Johnston, 17 of Shallotte was killed and seven other teens were badly injured when the pickup truck Coleman was driving hit a ditch embankment and crashed Sunday around 1:30 a.m.
Seven of the victims, including Johnston, were taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center. Another victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Johnston later died at Grand Strand Regional from injuries suffered in the crash.
Officials say that six of the surviving victims were in serious condition and one was in critical condition. Their current conditions are not known at this time.
According to officials, five of the teenagers were riding inside the truck, while Johnston and two others were riding in the bed.
