NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

The New Hanover County Sheriff's Office and several other agencies at the federal, state and local level have completed an operation today to round up people wanted on outstanding warrants including felony warrants.

The sweep, called Operation Clean Sweep, targeted several different parts of the county. The operation was ten months in the making. One hundred law enforcement officers from eleven different agencies took part in teams performing raids and searches.

So far 35 arrests have been made, including 12 federal indictments on known gang members and some drug dealers. Officials say some of the gang members are wanted for shootings in the Wilmington area.

Among those arrested are:

  • Victor Francisco Valladares
  • Justice Devon Price
  • Shamika Tarona Fennell
  • Tony Shaheen Davis
  • Victor Manuel Davila
  • Demond Nakai Flowers
  • Pearlie Armstrong
  • Ronald Lee Harry
  • Alicia Drayton
Law enforcement officers suspect Victor Valladares is the leader of one of the Bloods gangs in Wilmington.

They were charged in a 31 count federal indictment as part of an organization that distributed large quantities of heroin, phencyclidine (PCP), and engaged in money laundering.

Additionally, Jermaine Dale Rogers, Harlee Barsheen Tomer, Patrick McMillian Bragg, Tyquawn Washington, Vincent Bruce Jackson were charged in separate indictments for offenses related to the distribution of heroin.

Initial appearances were held in Wilmington on Wednesday for ten of the defendants indicted.

If convicted, the defendants could face a maximum penalty of between 20 years to life in prison.

"Today's arrests represent months of hard work and cooperation through a multi-agency effort," says Ralph Evangelous, Wilmington Chief of Police. "Our long-time partnerships with federal, state and local law enforcement were critical to the success of this investigation. I commend all who were involved in removing these violent offenders from our streets and making Wilmington a safer place for all."

Law enforcement officials are still searching for 15 more people wanted on outstanding felony warrants.
