WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A car slammed into the side of a business at the intersection of Wooster and 17th Streets early Thursday morning after being accused of hitting a car parked in the Chick-Fil-A restaurant down the road.

Witnesses told police the driver of a grey Nissan Sentra hit a car, belonging to Stuart Michael Lopes, in the parking lot of the Chick-Fil-A restaurant on Oleander Drive and left the scene.

Lopes followed the Nissan, driven by Rachel Lea Harvell, down Oleander Drive with speeds exceeding 75 mph, according to witnesses.

Harvell lost control of the Nissan at the intersection of 17th and Wooster Streets and crashed into a pole, and then the side of a building located at 730 S. 18th Street.

Harvell was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for minor injuries. The car involved is totaled.

Police say charges against Harvell are pending an investigation into the incident.

Lopes was charged with careless and reckless driving.
