WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Officers arrested a man after responding to a shot spotter alert in the 100 block of North 31st Street around 1:15 a.m. Wednesday.

While officers were questioning people in the area they saw a suspect walk out from the side of a van parked at 205 N. 31st St. with a gun in his hand, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Police immediately told the suspect, 38-year-old James Aaron Jinwright, to drop the gun. After a brief period of time, Jinwright complied and was taken into custody.

While searching Jinwright, officers discovered that he had PCP in his possession and that the gun was loaded.

Officers searched the area and found two shell casings and a fresh bullet hole in a vehicle across the street.

Arresting officers noticed that Jinwright appeared to be impaired during the incident.

Jinwright was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a schedule II substance and discharging of a firearm in city limits with property damage.
