The Board of Trustees at UNCW has elected a new chair and vice chair and has re-elected the secretary for the 2014-15 academic year.
Kinston resident Michael Shivar will serve as the chair of the Board of Trustees. He has served as the chair of several committees in the past. Shivar and his wife established a creative writing scholarship endowment at UNCW named for their daughter Ashley '07, '10, who holds degrees in creative writing.
"I am honored to serve as chair of the UNCW Board of Trustees," Shivar said. "The university is among the best in our region, and I'm proud to be the parent of a graduate. I look forward to supporting faculty and staff as they advance UNCW's mission to educate students, conduct research, pursue innovation and improve the quality of life in Southeastern North Carolina."
H. Carlton Fisher, a former member and chair of the UNCW Foundation Board, will be the acting vice-chair of the Board of Trustees. He is also the former chair of the Business Affairs Committee. He and his wife have a son who is a junior at UNCW and a daughter who is a freshman at UNC-CH.
Wilmington resident Wilma W. Daniels was re-elected as secretary of the Board of Trustees. She supports the Windell Daniels Public Housing & Section 8 Memorial Scholarship Endowment, created in memory of her late husband, who also served on the Board of Trustees.
Her son funded a scholarship endowment at UNCW and serves on the Board of Visitors.
