WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Downtown Wilmington transformed into whimsical Wonderland during the Sarus Festival Friday evening.

Actors and dancers occupied various sidewalks downtown dressed as characters from the children's novel, Alice in Wonderland with a Wilmington twist.

The Queen of Hearts handed out tarts, which were actually slivers of Slice of Life pizza. The caterpillar puffed  clouds of hookah smoke into the air on the corner of Market and 22nd Street.

Amber Adams, Artistic Director for Cape Fear Theatre Dance, said, "It's a live museum where you can come to each station. There are five stations and these people are live so it's art that you can choose to interact with or choose not to.

The performances were free to anyone passing by, but donations are accepted to the Cape Fear Theatre and Dance to support future surprise performances.
