Cornerstones of Courage relates story of SSgt. William James Bordelon, hero of Tarawa

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (PRWEB) August 22, 2014

SSgt. William James Bordelon was the bravest Marine I ever saw says his squad mate in an interview with the Marine Corps Chevron dated June 10, 1944. SSgt. Bordelon was wounded, yet he pressed on and assisted other wounded marines. He then attacked and destroyed four enemy machine gun positions by himself. He succeeded, but at the cost of his own life. He was a hero of the Battle of Tarawa and posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.

Cornerstones of Courage (published by Xlibris) by Douglas R. Pricer is the first and only biography of SSgt. Bordelon. It relates the life of a man whose exemplary acts epitomized the idea that faith, family and a devotion to a greater good trumps all else. A life that was much more than the few violent moments in combat for which he was honored. He was a loving son, a kind and protective brother, a proud Texan, a fighting Marine, and a patriotic American.

This story of a man who pushed himself to acts of sacrificial valor holds a deep connection with Pricer whose father also served in the marines and fought in Tarawa. For others, Pricer would like to convey the message that freedom is not free and that we should never forget our heroes.
