WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Racks of colorful clothes, displays of handmade jewelry, and even boxes of designer bow ties fulfilled every shopper's dream at the first ever Fashion On Front event Thursday evening.

"The event really is a launch of Wilmington Fashion that's an onsite forum," event  representative Andrea Cordon explained.

Shoppers who purchased tickets could peruse different displays while speaking to store owners and sipping wine.

"What makes Wilmington unique is that there is so much local love and support for fashion," Cordon said.

Karyn Oetting, owner of Second Skin Vintage,  said she was looking for that local support which is why she opted to set up shop at the event. "I had decided traditional advertising wasn't going to reach my target audience, but this seemed like a way I could connect with other people interested in fashion."

Event representative Khalilah Olokunola said even though Wilmington is considered a small city, Fashion on Front proves that the local industry is comparable to other Fashion Meccas around the world.

"Country people, country girls, country men can think big, and we think big here in Wilmington, North Carolina. We're not subjected to how big our town is or what people think about us. We know we are a creative hub and we have something to offer. Tonight we're speaking louder than ever."
