Man drives off with woman's car after she asked for help parking

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A woman's day at an Atlanta court immediately turned awful before she could even walk in the door.

She had her car stolen around 9 a.m. on Wednesday after she handed the keys to the would-be carjacker, hoping he would help her park her car.

The woman said she tried to parallel park several times outside the Atlanta Municipal Court at 150 Garnett St. SW with no success.

That's when she said she asked for help.

After handing the keys to a man she hoped would park her car for her, she said he took off.

In a bizarre twist, the man did not immediately realize the woman's sister was still in the car.

After driving about 2 1/2 miles away from the courthouse to the 1000 block of Palmetto Avenue SW, the man finally just got out of the car and left, but not before stealing the woman's purse.

Police said neither woman was hurt in the incident.

To make matters worse, when the woman returned to court after the incident, a CBS46 photographer noticed that a ticket had been placed on her car due to an expired meter.
