PENDER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

Preliminary autopsy results show a woman in Kelly, NC was shot to death on her 84th birthday, according to Pender County Sheriff's Office Captain Jamie Ezzell.

According to Major Keith Hinkle, deputies found Annie Mills Anderson, deceased inside her home on Morgan Road Monday.

Hinkle said a family member went to pick up Anderson from her house and discovered the front door had been damaged.

He said the family member did not enter the residence and called law enforcement around 11:45 a.m.

When deputies arrived shortly after the call, they found Anderson's injured body inside the home. He said it is believed that she lived by herself.

Ezzell said the sheriff's office is actively conducting interviews and continuing to focus on the collection of evidence in this murder case.
