New Hanover County residents looking to get rid of their old or used batteries will have a new option beginning today.
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -
New Hanover County residents looking to get rid of their old or used batteries will have a new option to properly dispose of them beginning Monday.
New Hanover County announced that all public library locations will begin accepting old and used batteries.
Any type of battery can be dropped off for recycling, including alkaline, lithium, and rechargeables. Collected batteries will be taken to the county's household hazardous waste facility for sorting, packaging, and shipment to approved recyclers.
The battery recycling drop-off containers are available at all four New Hanover County Public Library locations:
Main - 201 Chestnut Street, Wilmington, NC 28401
Myrtle Grove – 5155 South College Road, Wilmington, NC 28412
Northeast – 1241 Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, NC 28405
Carolina Beach – 300 Cape Fear Boulevard, Carolina Beach, NC 28428
This convenient service is made possible through a partnership between the New Hanover County Public Library and the county's environmental management department.
Used batteries contain corrosive chemicals and heavy metals that, when disposed improperly, can contaminate groundwater.
