As nearly 2,000 UNCW students flood to campus to start their fall semester, Interim Chancellor Bill Sederburg is also getting ready to start to his job.
Sederburg has only been in town two weeks, but said he is on the fast track to learning about UNCW and its community. He said his situation is tricky since his term is only temporary, but has a clear idea of his role.
"Essentially my task here as interim chancellor is to resolve a few administrative issues that have built up over time," Sederburg explained. "Then to build up the campus image and reputation and get ready for a new chancellor, so we can recruit a very strong pull of candidates, and we can be a very attractive campus to the very best there is throughout the country."
Sederburg said one of his main goals is to keep UNCW in the trajectory it's moving.
"There are so many positive things that have been going on here," Sederburg said. "So we want to keep it moving, and just layer on top some of these minor things that I think need to be fixed."
One area Sederburg wants to improve is clarity what type of institution UNCW is, and where they want to go in the future.
"I think as we look at the future of the institution, as we go out to recruit a new chancellor, we need to be clearer on how we talk about the institution," said Sederburg. "That will be one of the conversations we will have with the board of trustees, board of governors, and others; so the community is quite clear where we are headed as an institution."
Sederburg said the board of trustee's is actively looking for a permanent chancellor and hopes to be a part of the search.
