TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
There is a new cheerleading squad in town and they're ready to take on the competition.
The Team Inspire Twisters are a group of special needs children learning to cheer. On Sunday, the squad had their first practice at Gym Tyler Gymnastics where special needs children came from across East Texas to be part of the team.
The squad will compete as far away as Dallas and will have weekly practices just like any other cheerleading squad at the gym. One mother drove more than an hour just so her daughter could have a spot on Team Inspire.
"She really can't participate in the cheerleading programs so there's a lot of things she can't participate in, but this is going to be amazing for her and for us because we can cheer her on,” said Rhonda Ventura, who has a daughter on the team. “She wants to be a cheerleader. She wouldn't in the real world, but this is a way for her to be able to participate and feel just as awesome as the other cheerleaders would be."
Team Inspire is a non-profit group and is raising money to cover uniform costs and travel fees. If you would like to donate to help the special cheerleading squad, you can make donations at any Prosperity Bank location under Twisters Inspire.
