Two people have died following a collision Saturday with a MAX Blue Line train at Gresham City Hall.
The crash happened around noon Saturday and involved a woman using a mobility device and her adult son.
On Saturday evening, the Multnomah County Medical Examiner released the identities of the two victims.
Killed at the scene was Bertha Nellie Kelly, 66, of Portland. Her son, John Paul Kelly, 48, died at the hospital.
Early reports are that the woman's son may have jumped into the woman's lap and powered the mobility device into the right of way.
Family members said John Paul Kelly was mentally disabled and liked to play with the wheelchair and make it go. They also described John Paul Kelly as playful and kind-hearted. Bertha Kelly is being remembered as a woman who would help anyone.
"If you ever needed anything, she was that type of woman who didn't have much, but somehow she managed to give and give," said Eddie Held, a family friend, who said Bertha Kelly treated him like a grandson.
"It was a tragic, freak accident," said James Kelly, Bertha Kelly's grandson. "You've got to love your loved ones for today, not tomorrow, because tomorrow's never promised."
The incident remains under investigation.
