If you thought waking up to the smell of bacon was great, try waking up to the smell of BBQ with the 2nd annual Carolina Fireplace Port City Ribfest.
Last year's inaugural festival saw close to 20,000 attendees; organizers are hoping for the same turn out in 2014.
The event kicks off at 11 a.m. Friday, August 15, in the park next to the USS North Carolina battleship. It continues through midnight with admission at $1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday runs from 11 a.m. to midnight and Sunday lasts from noon until 7 p.m.
The festival features award-winning "ribbers" along with great music and other tasty treats.
Prices vary, but you can be sure if you show up hungry, there will be something to treat your palate.
Friday: Stray Local, 6pm; doby, 8:30pm; Painted Man, 10:30pm.
Saturday: Twisted Hix, 12:30pm; CC Martin, 2pm; Bombadil, 3:30pm; BBQ Awards, 5pm; Estrangers, 6pm; Dubtown Cosmonauts, 8pm; Zulu Wave, 10pm.
Sunday: Nu-Blu, 1pm; Jim Avett, 3pm; Karaoke Finals, 4:15pm; Carolina Still, 5:30pm.
Shuttle services will be provided from downtown Wilmington. Pick up and drop off is on the corner of Market and Second Streets downtown.
Friday, August 15 - from 10 am until 1 am
Saturday, August 16 - from 10 am until 1 am
Sunday, August 17 - from 11 am until 8 pm
The cost will be $5 per person round trip. Each passenger will receive a wristband that
must be worn to receive return transportation or they must pay again.
All shuttle riders will receive a$2 discount off of regular (full adult) RibFest admission. Discount does not begin until 5 PM on Friday.
