NC Aquarium hosts deaf awareness day

KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) -

The North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher is hosting a deaf awareness day September 6.

The day will have activities catered to those with hearing impairments. Exhibits will be enhanced with sign language, captioning, or scripting to assist visitors.

The dive program, scheduled for 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., will include an interpreter assisting with questions for the diver swimming inside the exhibit with sharks, rays and a green sea turtle.

Scheduled Aquarium activities on Sept. 6 include:

  • 10:00 a.m. Film: Web of Life (close captioned)
  • 10:30 a.m. Dive Show (sign language interpreter)
  • 11:00 a.m. Buzzard Bay feeding (sign language interpreter)
  • 11:30 a.m. Live Animal Program: Jellies (sign language interpreter)
  • 12:00 p.m. Film: Nightlife (close captioned)
  • 1:30 p.m. Live Animal Program: Turtles (sign language interpreter)
  • 2:30 p.m.Dive Show (sign language interpreter)
  • 3:00 p.m.Shadows on the Sand feeding (sign language interpreter)
  • 3:30 p.m. Film: Unlovables (close captioned)

Admission: $10.95 ages 13-61, $9.95 ages 62+ and military, $8.95 ages 3-12, free for children 2 and younger, NC Aquarium Society members and pre-registered North Carolina school groups. General information: www.ncaquariums.com/fort-fisher.
