WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Officers with the Wilmington Police Department were called Friday night around 10:00 to respond to reports of an armed robbery at the Family Dollar near the intersection of Carolina Beach Road and Shipyard Boulevard.

According to police, officers found two employees on the floor behind the registered.

Officers say the employees were closing the store when the suspect came around the corner and ordered them to open the safe or he would kill them.

That's when the victims say they were hit with the handgun, and the suspect grabbed as much money as he could before running away.

The suspect was wearing black gloves, pants and a long sleeve shirt during the robbery. He was also wearing a mask. He's described as being 6'2" and 200 lbs.

The two employees were taken to the hospital for treatment.
