LITCHFIELD PARK, AZ (CBS5) -

A family of four escaped injury after a fire that badly damaged their condominium also claimed the family's dog early Friday morning.

The fire broke out about 2:40 a.m. in the middle unit of three adjacent condos at 300 S. Desert Ave. in Litchfield Park, firefighters said.

The unit to the east of the damaged condo was not occupied, and residents in the west unit were allowed to return to their home, firefighters said.

Units from Avondale, Peoria and Luke Air Force Base fought the blaze.

The cause was under investigation.
