Unsolved murder still haunting victim's family

BURKE COUNTY, GA (WFXG) -

It's been almost two and a half years since a pregnant mom was murdered in her own home, and deputies say the person responsible is still walking free.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office and the victim's family is asking the public to help them put the killer behind bars.

The murder of Amy Ellison and her unborn child rocked this small town of Girard. Her mom Marilynn, said it devastated her family. They're left with a long list of unanswered questions.

"Every single day I wake up and think of Amy," Marilynn said. "I just don't understand how somebody could do such a thing."

Deputies said the killer walked right up to that home and shot Amy in the stomach, leaving her three young children to find her body. Her family says Amy deserves justice and they want this killer off of the streets.

"For someone to come in the middle of the night, and shoot a mother of three, and pregnant with another child, it's senseless," said Sgt. Dedric Smith with the Burke County Sheriff's Office. "To leave her there for her kids to find her, a person like that needs to be behind bars."

"How can somebody do that to those girls," Marilynn said. "Leave her there, for them to wake up. That's a sick person."

Investigators and Amy's family think that someone shot Amy in cold blood to terminate her pregnancy.

"It was senseless to for somebody to do that to her because they didn't want the child," Marilynn said.

Investigators said dozens of people have been interviewed in connection to Amy's murder and people of interest have been identified, but they need the public's help. Sgt. Smith said even the smallest information could break the case wide open.

"I just wish you would come to your senses, admit what you did, so our family can get closure to this," Marilynn pleaded.

Marilynn believes they won't see that closure or get any of their questions answered, until Amy's killer is behind bars.

The Burke County Sheriff's Office is offering a reward of $10,000 or more for any information leading to an arrest in the case. If you have any information, you can contact the sheriff's office at 706-554 -2133.
