Arpaio to meet with Sun City, Sun City West residents about burglaries

SUN CITY, AZ (CBS5) -

Homeowners in Sun City and Sun City West are warned to be on the lookout for serial burglars who've recently hit 40 residences, sheriff's authorities said.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio will meet with residents of Sun City and Sun City West at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sundial Center to discuss the crime spree.

Maricopa County sheriff's deputies said the suspects have been kicking their way into homes through a front, side or rear door, usually while occupants are away.

They move quickly, stealing jewelry, firearms, flat screen televisions and other electronic devices.

"About 30 of the 40 have occurred when nobody has been living in the homes," Arpaio said.

Witnesses say there are two to three suspects. One suspect may be a Hispanic woman.

The suspects use several getaway vehicles, which are described as a red/maroon hatchback car or similar-type SUV, a tan passenger car possibly resembling a Chevrolet Malibu or Chevy Impala, a green passenger car of unknown make and a faded blue passenger car of unknown make.

"I'll just send out a lot of resources and blitz the area," Arpaio said.

People noticing any suspicious activity should immediately report it to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office at 602-876-1011.
