Two clerks charged with selling beer to minors

Metro police arrested two workers at Chico's Mercado on BNA Drive on Tuesday for allegedly selling beer to minors.

Detectives said a citizen called police after seeing clerks selling beer to people under 21.

Police, along with Nashville Prevention Partnership, set up compliance checks on four different occasions, sending minors to buy alcohol. They said the clerks did ask for identification, but didn't check the birth dates.

Both clerks face criminal charges.

The owner's son said he believes it was all a big mistake. The owner must appear before the Beer Board and could lose his license to sell alcohol.
