TOOMBS CO., GA (WTOC) -

A man accused of murdering s a Toombs County teacher could face the death penalty if he goes to trial.

Prosecutors said they will ask a jury to sentence Simon Dixon Mitchell to death. They expect a grand jury to hear the case in the next month.

Mitchell was arrested for the kidnapping and stabbing death of Lyons Primary School teacher Robin Matthews.

"There are certain criteria that district attorneys in the state look to, and it's the most important decision that a district attorney has to make."

Mitchell was released from prison in January and was on parole when this occurred. He admitted to the murder in his first appearance in court back in May.
