WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -
Wilmington City Council approved a request Tuesday for an additional $162,100 for the renovation project underway at the Municipal Golf Course.
Crews working on the Donald Ross-designed course say recent downpours washed out some areas around the greens where they had planted grass sprigs.
They say replanting the sprigs is no longer an option, because if the weather cooperates, the sprigs would not have enough time to grow in fully in time for the course to re-open on schedule in October. Staff requested the additional money from City Council to buy grass sod to fill in those areas instead.
The $162,100 will come from leftover funding in the 2006 parks bond.
The current project is the first full repair and restoration project of the greens since the course was originally built in 1926.
