CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WECT) -
Eight coastal marinas in the area have been re-certified as North Carolina Clean Marinas. The designation is given to marinas that go above and beyond the state's environmental regulations.
A total of 15 marinas have been given the recognition. Each marina must meet criteria developed by the N.C. Division of Coastal Management to be eligible to fly the Clean Marina flag.
The clean marinas in southeastern North Carolina area include:
Carolina Beach State Park, Carolina Beach
Federal Point Yacht Club, Carolina Beach
Harbor Oaks Boataminium, Carolina Beach
Harbour Village Marina, Hampstead
Joyner Marina, Carolina Beach
Mona Black Marina, Carolina Beach
Southport Marina, Southport
Wilmington Marine Center, Wilmington
Marina owners must prepare spill prevention plans and conduct safety and emergency planning to earn the certification. This process must be completed every three years to retain the designation as a North Carolina Clean Marina.
