UPDATE: Bond tripled for SC man busted in Bwk Co. with nearly a kilo of cocaine

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

A South Carolina man's bond has been tripled to $1.5 million after he was busted with nearly a kilogram worth of cocaine in Brunswick County.

According to officials, Phillip Allen Spikes, Jr., 35, was arrested during a traffic stop on Beach Drive in Calabash.

Deputies searched Spikes' vehicle and found 824 grams of cocaine worth an estimated $27,000 - $31,000. Deputies also found drug paraphernalia consisting of aluminum foil and grocery bags.

Spikes was also wanted in South Carolina for a probation violation for possessing a stolen vehicle.

Spikes is charged with:

  • Trafficking cocaine (3 counts)
  • Possession with intent to manufacture/sell/deliver cocaine
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Giving fictitious/false information to an officer

Spikes' bond was originally set at $500,000 but has been tripled to $1,500,000.
