Brunswick Co. inmate dies from apparent suicide, officials say

A Brunswick County inmate was found dead in his jail cell early Wednesday morning.

According to officials, Thomas Jason Holland, 28, was found unresponsive in his cell around 1:15 a.m. 

Officials say Holland died from an apparent suicide.

The State Bureau of Investigation has been notified and will be conducting a death in custody investigation at the request of Brunswick County Sheriff John Ingram and District Attorney Jon David.

The Brunswick County Sheriff's Office of Personal Standards has launched its own internal investigation and during the initial stages of the investigations have found no indication of foul play or violations in policies and procedures.

Holland had been in custody since Dec. 15, 2013 and was facing numerous felony charges including first-degree murder, multiple counts of breaking and entering, larceny, breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, and larceny of a motor vehicle.
