Brunswick County man pleads guilty to taking indecent liberties with a child

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

A man from Brunswick County pleaded guilty to one count of taking indecent liberties with a child Monday. 

James Murray Batson received a sentence of between 13 and 25 months suspended for 24 months.

He will be on supervised probation, have to register as a sex offender for thirty years, have no contact with the victim or her family, participate in a sex offender specific evaluation and not live in a home with anyone under the age of 18 years old.

Batson was given credit for time served before the court appearance. 

The mother and stepfather of the victim both addressed the judge in the courtroom Monday.
