(WMC) - Another ZIP code tested positive for West Nile. That brings the total of Shelby County ZIP codes with positive tests up to seven.

Most recently, mosquitoes in the 38115 ZIP code tested positive. Six other ZIP codes tested positive earlier in the year. Those areas are 38105, 38107, 38111, 38112, 38122, and 38128.

In an effort to prevent the mosquitoes from passing along the virus, Shelby County is ramping up its schedule of spraying truck mounted EPA-approved insecticides in portions of specific zip codes around the county.

Keep in mind the spraying isn't 100 percent effective. Truck-mounted spraying kills adult mosquitoes that are flying during the spray. The spray will not kill mosquito larva or hidden adult mosquitoes.

For that reason, health officials encourage everyone to wear DEET-containing mosquito repellents when going outside. Also, try and keep the mosquitoes from breeding in your yard: eliminate standing water, repair leaky faucets, and remember to store wheelbarrows, canoes, and boats upside down.

DeSoto County, Mississippi records show no mosquitoes tested positive in 2014. Arkansas data was not available.
