WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Stephanie Gray never thought she would be acting in a television show this year.

The UNCW Biology major and New Hanover County intern wasn't even sure if she would be chosen as an extra when she auditioned for the new television show, Realm.

Gray said she could hardly believe it when the casting director asked her to play one of the show's main characters.

"I am more than excited because I feel like it's something fresh and new and something beautiful to be a part of. I'm not thinking anything terrible at this point," Gray said.

She explained that in the show she will play a med student going through a bad break-up. Gray said she has done work as an extra before, but has never actually acted for a production.

"The fact that I've been doing this for three weeks and they tell me that I'm the main character in a TV show - it's still kind of crazy," Gray explained.

Gray said she will try to balance finishing up her degree with the acting next year.

Gray said the pilot for Realm is set to begin filming this fall. She said the producers are in the process of negotiating with some networks to find a home for the show.
