Adams advances at North & South Women's Amateur

UNCW Press Release

PINEHURST, North Carolina – Former UNCW women's golfer Lori Beth Adams posted a pair of match-play victories to advance to the semifinals of the 112th North & South Women's Amateur on Friday at the Pinehurst Resort.

A native of Burlington, N.C., who completed her collegiate playing career in May, Adams posted a 2-and-1 victory over Clemson-signee Lauren Stephenson in the morning before recording a 1-up triumph over Stanford rising sophomore and stroke-play medalist Casey Danielson during quarterfinal action in the afternoon.

With the two victories, Adams becomes the first UNCW women's golfer to advance to the semifinals, where she will face Columbia graduate Michelle Piyapattra Saturday at 7:30 a.m. The winner of the 18-hole semifinal match will advance to the finals, where they will face the winner of the Allison Lee and Ally McDonald match at 1 p.m. All matches for the 112th North & South Women's Amateur Championship are being held on the No. 8 course at the Pinehurst Resort.

Serving as the No. 8 seed, Adams won two of the final four holes played in her morning match to break a an all-square deadlock with the No. 9 seed Stephenson and post the 2-and-1 victory.

During a quarterfinal match that saw a total of five lead changes and neither player lead by more than one hole, Danielson was up one heading to the 17th tee before bogeying the final two holes to allow Adams to capture both holes with pars and turn in a 1-up victory.

"The wind was picking up in the afternoon and it really got tough out there," said Adams of her match against Danielson. "But I stayed with it and never gave up. Anything can happen, and it did."

Adams is no stranger to success at the North & South Amateur. She is making her second appearance in the match play portion of the North & South Women's Amateur as she advanced to the quarterfinals in 2012. She also narrowly missed the cut for match play during the 2013 edition of the event.
