Living along the Gulf Coast, AltaPointe staff members are no strangers to tropical trouble. Since hurricane season officially began June 1, it is a high priority for staff members to know how to be ready to respond in case 2014 is the year for that big storm. AltaPointe's Environment of Care put its plan to the test by holding a hurricane drill.
Mobile, Ala. (PRWEB) July 18, 2014
Its a scenario you prepare for, but hope to never experience. AltaPointe Health Systems Environment of Care department is pulling out all the stops holding a hurricane drill. Robert Carlock, environment of care director, says the purpose is to ensure all staff members know what to do in case of tropical trouble.
We want staff to familiarize themselves with how their particular program and the company prepares for, mitigates, responds and recovers regarding a hurricane, Carlock said. We will also use the drill to inform staff members of communication options of where they can obtain information prior to and after a hurricane.
AltaPointe is Alabamas largest behavioral healthcare provider with 12 major facilities; including two psychiatric hospitals in Mobile and Baldwin counties. Staffing the hospitals and group homes is a major concern when there is an imminent threat.
During the drill, 24 hour program management will review its plan to address the six functions of emergency management; communication, resources/ assets, safety/ security, staff responsibilities, utilities management and patient/clinical/support activities.
"The 24 hour programs will also review their 96 hour supply of food, water, medications, medical supplies, and be familiar with how these items will be obtained during a hurricane."
Drill scenarios and post-drill critiques, complete with boarding up windows and running generators are all part of exercise scheduled for July 18.
