The East Columbus football team will open the season with a new head coach for the second straight year. Columbus County Schools confirmed Thursday the hire of Rocky Lewis as the Gator's new head coach.
Lewis is the son of Clinton Head Coach Bob Lewis, and has been out of coaching for the past 10 years. Lewis has coaching experience at the college level as an assistant at Appalachian State and NC A&T.
He takes over a Gator program that finished 5-and-8 a year ago, and advanced to the 2nd round of the playoffs. Lewis replaces Chris Haney, who stepped down to take over the offensive coordinator duties at Ashley High School.
