Sewage spill reported in Lake Waccamaw

LAKE WACCAMAW, NC (WECT) -

Approximately 7,500 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled into Lake Waccamaw Wednesday.

Town officials said two spills were caused by persistent inflow and infiltration of groundwater into the town's sewer caused by heavy amounts of rain.

The first spill happened at a manhole located near 101 Canal Cove Road and the other spill happened near 102 Creek Ridge Road according to Town Manager Darren Currie.

The NCDENR requires to sets of water samples be tested. The first test results will be available July 18 and the second set will be available July 22.
