Man cited for swimming in the Cape Fear River

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A man was cited by Wilmington Police after jumping into the Cape Fear River early Sunday morning.

According to witnesses, the man jumped from the Riverwalk at South Water Street around 2 a.m. and disappeared several times while in the water.

Witnesses lost sight of the man around Castle Street.

Emergency crews were called to help find the man. SABLE was also brought in to assist crews in the search.

He was eventually spotted in the river under the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge.

Officials removed him from the water and cited him for swimming in the river.

EMS checked the man out and he eventually left in a cab.
