The Charlotte division of the FBI will host an active shooter training exercise at Independence Mall starting at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Approximately 80 law enforcement, fire, EMS, mall personnel, and volunteers will participate in the exercise.
The training exercise has been scheduled to not interfere with normal mall operations.
The FBI says the public should expect to see a large number law enforcement agencies in the area and requests that people to stay away from the mall parking lot and the area directly surrounding the mall during the exercise.
The exercise is the culmination of a three part training program developed by the FBI in wake of recent mass shootings across the country.
