Lauren Rautenkranz joined the First Alert Weather team in June of 2014 just in time to be welcomed by Hurricane Arthur as it brushed the southeast coast of North Carolina. Lauren is delighted to be working at WECT News as a Meteorologist and Reporter. She's an enthusiastic storyteller with a passion for weather and forecasting.
Lauren is furthering her education as she pursues her Masters of Geosciences in Applied Meteorology though Mississippi State University. She has earned a certificate in climatology and meteorology through the University of Florida's Geography Department. Lauren received the Ruth and Rae O. Weimer Award and the Outstanding Scholar Award for UF's College of Journalism and Communications. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Florida's College of Journalism and Communications and holds a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunications News with minors in Geography and Communication Studies.
Previously, Lauren worked as a news correspondent for a lifestyle program airing in North Florida called My Ocala TV. In Gainesville, FL, she worked as a weather forecaster for WRUF and worked as a co-anchor, reporter, and also weather forecaster for WUFT News. She interned at WPTV in West Palm Beach, FL and WCJB in Gainesville, FL as both a weather and news intern. Lauren had loads of fun co-hosting UF's 90th Annual Homecoming Parade as well. Before working in front of the camera, Lauren gained experience with live productions as a camera operator, assistant producer, video player, and timeout coordinator with Fox Sports, ESPN, and Daktronics. Lauren loves all aspects of live television and is thankful to have realized her life's passion at a young age.
Born and raised in South Florida, Lauren considers the beach her home and is thrilled to be living in the beautiful, coastal city of Wilmington. She loves spending time near the ocean, snuggling with her kitten, and is always cheering on her Florida Gators. When she was younger, Lauren spent her summers on family vacations to St. Petersburg, FL and enjoyed watching afternoon thunderstorms roll in off the beach. Lauren is blessed with an incredibly supportive family, including her mother, father, and younger brother. If she could wake up to watch every sunrise and stay up to watch every sunset, she would. She loves exploring new places, meeting new people, and learning new things.
Lauren's favorite part about journalism is that *everyone has a story!* This is hers. What's yours? Feel free to say hi if you see Lauren around town or send her an email if you have a story idea.
Keep in touch with Lauren!
